Baker McKenzie has been recognized as a corporate leader at the 2017 Gender Equality Forum and Managing Partner Kevin Coon says we will continue our focus on improving equality across the Firm.

The event was hosted by the UN Global Compact Network Canada on April 3 and 4, in Toronto, and we received the award in the category of “Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality“.

The awards were voted on by the public and the categories were based upon the seven UN Women’s Empowerment Principles.

“We are honoured to be recognized at the inaugural Gender Equality Forum.  The legal profession has been making progress but much more needs to be done to improve gender equality at the partner and leadership ranks,” Kevin said.

“Baker McKenzie has recently signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and initiated efforts throughout the Firm globally to take a leadership role to address gender, diversity and inclusion issues.”

Partners Nancy Hamzo (Top photo left) and Kamleh Nicola (Top photo right) accepted the award along with Kevin, who also spoke on the panel “Why Are We Not Equal? — How to Overcome the Wicked Challenges”. Associate Stephanie MacIntosh then spoke as part of the breakout session “Confronting the Gender Gap — What Gets Measured Gets Done”.
